The 6th China-CEECs Education Policy Dialogue in Shenzhen

The 6th China-Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) Education Policy Dialogue was held in Shenzhen on May 28. It was attended by TIAN Xuejun, Vice Minister of the MOE, HUANG Ningsheng, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, GAO Ziming, Vice Mayor of Shenzhen City, and officials from educational authorities and ambassadors to China from CEECs, as well as representatives from both Chinese and CEEC higher education institutions.

In his speech, Vice Minister Tian noted that coinciding with the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up policy, the Dialogue was of particular significance as it aimed for cooperation and exchange. Over the past five years, driven by the Belt and Road Initiative, cooperation between China and 16 CEECs (“16+1 Cooperation”) in education had yielded fruitful results. He added that China and CEECs should further boost cooperation in higher education, innovation and entrepreneurship, vocational education and sports on campus, etc.

Topics cover by the Dialogue included innovation and entrepreneurship, student exchanges, new areas for educational cooperation, new initiatives for results-based cooperation and more. The MOE announced its launch of two projects “China-CEECs Educational Capacity Building” and “China-CEECs Joint Training in Higher Education Institutions” in 2019, which were positively received by participating countries.

After the Dialogue, Vice Minister Tian met with, H.E. Mr. Mladen Šarčević, Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia; Ms. Tea Varak, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Research of Estonia; Ms. Dana Prudíková, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic; Ms. Olga Nachtmannová, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic, and Mr. Adnan Husic, Assistant to the Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to discuss bilateral educational cooperation between China and their respective countries.
