The opening ceremony of the China-UK Association for the Humanities in High Education was held in Shanghai on Dec 6. Chen Baosheng, Chinese Minister of Education, and Ciarán Devane, CEO of the British Council, inaugurated and addressed the ceremony.
China and the United Kingdom decided to build a global, comprehensive strategic relationship for the 21 century to create a golden age of Sino-British relations, said Chen Baosheng.
Chen pointed out that China’s Ministry of Education is willing to join hands with the United Kingdom to work toward higher-level people-to-people exchanges in education, promote mutual benefits, establish win-win cooperation in education exchanges, break new paths for the improvement of the Sino-British relationship, and give impetus to its development.
The China-UK Association for the Humanities in High Education is a platform for trans-cultural and cross-national dialogue, discussion, and cooperation in humanistic education which serves to deepen exchange and cooperation between Chinese and British universities and cultivate the young generation’s ability to understand and borrow different cultures, according to Chen.
Chen emphasized that to strengthen university alliance construction, they must make full use of the cluster advantage, build a multi-lateral cooperation model, carry out alliance academic cooperation, and cultivate more outstanding, innovative talents with international understanding and cultural integration abilities.
It’s also necessary to give full play to teaching and scientific research resources within alliance universities, elaborate on planning for alliance cooperation from strategic and overall perspectives, design and provide intellectual support for better development and civilization community, Chen said.
